Depression
Depression is a serious condition where an individual experiences a persistent depressed mood and loss of interest or pleasure in activities. The individual can experience a range of symptoms: fatigue, changes in appetite and sleep, feelings of worthlessness/excessive guilt, difficulty concentrating, or suicidal thoughts.
Understanding Depression
Depression is more than just feeling sad or having a rough day—it’s a complex mental health condition that can affect how you feel, think, and function in everyday life. For some, it may come in waves; for others, it can feel like a constant weight. At Wellness Psychology LLC, Dr. Elisheva Assouline works with individuals to better understand their experience of depression and find meaningful paths to recovery. Recognizing the type and impact of depression you’re experiencing is an important step toward healing.

Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)
Major Depressive Disorder is characterized by persistent sadness, loss of interest in activities once enjoyed, changes in appetite or sleep, fatigue, and difficulty concentrating. These symptoms last most of the day, nearly every day, for at least two weeks, and can significantly impact daily functioning and relationships.
Persistent Depressive Disorder
This is a long-term form of depression where symptoms are less severe than MDD but last for two years or more. Individuals may experience chronic low mood, low self-esteem, and decreased energy, often feeling like they've “always felt this way.”
